The Chaparral Best Buddies action team raised $1,000 in donations for this year's Arizona Best Buddies Friendship Walk. Chaparral students, faculty, administration and family members came together on April 13 at Kiwanis Park, Tempe, in support of inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Mrs. Kristine Diamond, Chaparral school psychologist, leads the Chaparral Best Buddies action team with 115 students.
Chaparral students, staff and families came together on April 18 to participate in a service learning event at Feed My Starving Children. Boxes of food were packaged and will ensure that 17,928 meals will feed 49 children for 1 year!
Chaparral Elementary Crayon Action Team kicked off in full force! Students take in old, broken crayons and turn them into fun creations. These popular creations are sold before school, every Wednesday and proceeds are donated to various charities within our community.
Chaparral students volunteered to assist 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Robyn Nelson, hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stand during the Very Cooley Christmas HOA party in the park! During the month of December, students helped raise over $1,000 to support children's cancer research.
The Student Lighthouse Team at Chaparral Elementary organized a food drive to support Matthews Crossing foodbank. Thanks to the students' efforts, chaparral raised 620 pounds of food to support the cause.
A WallofHonor was created to showcase Veterans related to students and staff in the Chaparral Shark Tank! A photo of each Veteran with information was used to create a WallofHonor that was showcased during the annual Veterans Day Breakfast and remain on display to honor those who have served.
Wanting to give back to the Shark Tank, a former Chaparral Shark, Andres Kent, organized a group of 25 volunteers (7 former Sharks) to complete an Eagle Project over Fall Break. Volunteers painted a multiplication chart, in school colors, on the primary playground.
